METALSCAN
On 21st January the process for acquiring the French company Metalscan concluded and Tecnatom became the major shareholder of this Non-destructive Test company, assuring its 100% shareholding of the company within the next four years. Metalscan, besides being a reputable manufacturer of probes, has developed its own ultrasonic electronic system and has numerous other products on the market. Metalscan is located at Saint Rémy (France).
Likewise, it has been offering services to several industrial sectors has a very diverse portfolio of clients which includes, among others, the electricity, aerospace, railways, naval, steel, petrochemical and defence sectors. The purchasing of this French company specialized in Non-destructive Tests, which has a significant presence in France and Italy, will open up new business opportunities for Tecnatom and will strengthen its activities leading towards diversification and an increase of its presence in Europe.
Metalscan was set up in 1984 and currently has 25 employees. Its turnover for the year 2003 was in excess of 3 million Euros. Among its most significant clients in the aerospace sector are RATP, SNFC, DCN BREST, DASSAULT AVIATION, SNECMA, AIRBUS FRANCE, HUREL HISPANO, ALBERT&DUVAL FORTECH, COMPOSITES AQUITANE, EADS SPACE, AUGUSTA (Italy), the Italian Air Force, etc.
In the electricity sector, the following companies are among its clients: EdF, Intercontrol, FRAMATOME ANP, WESTINGHOUSE, COMEX NUCLAIRE, CEA, etc. and in the petrochemical sector, ESSO RAFFINAGE SAF, AIR LIQUID, etc.
The joint technological capabilities of Tecnatom and Metalscan will thus increase their presence in these varied national and international sectors, providing services and products with a high level of added value, quality and efficiency. NEW COMPANY Multi2000 (M2M)
Through Metalscan, Tecnatom has also assumed the leadership of a new French company, Multi2000 (M2M), created jointly with the companies Metalscan, Euraltech, CEA Valorisation (The French Atomic Energy Commission) for the development and commercialisation of ultrasonic "Phase-Array" inspection systems. On 28th October 2003 begun the activities leading to the creation of the company M2M. M2M has its headquarters in Saint Rémy, near Chalon sur Saone (France).
The main objective of M2M is the manufacture and maintenance of the ultrasonic system using "Phase Array" techniques, which has been developed by Multi2000 and the establishing of the necessary technology to be able to respond to the demands of the different industrial sectors (electricity production, aeronautics, railways, automobile industry, steel works, etc).
The excellent results obtained by this type of ultrasonic equipment with multiple-element system currently responds to the requirements of many industries (quality control of manufacturing, in service inspections, examination of welds, surveys, components, etc.). The methods and techniques used combine the capabilities of multiple systems and the features of the algorithms used, which mean that the inspections can be carried out more quickly and the results will be of a higher quality.
