Tecnatom is an engineering company which was established in 1957 in order to support the construction, commissioning and operation of the Spanish nuclear power plants belonging to the electricity companies. At the beginning of the eighties, the company defined a strategy aimed at developing its own technologies which would be applied to its in service inspection activities in the power plants and aimed at providing training programmes for the plant operators themselves.
The Spanish nuclear sector includes nuclear power plants with Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) and Boiling Water Reactors (BWR) technologies from different suppliers. This diversity of nuclear technology means that Tecnatom has an in depth knowledge of their technical characteristics and it means that the technological capabilities it has developed are far reaching and varied and can be applied to the different types of nuclear power plant.
A direct consequence of this has been that, ever since the beginning of the nineties, Tecnatom has been able to open up its activities to the international market. Our success in this market can be seen by the fact that Tecnatom is present in more than 30 different countries in America, Europe and Asia, as can be seen on the page in the world.
This international presence includes the countries of Eastern Europe, Russia and the Ukraine, which have nuclear power plants of both WWER (Russian Pressurized Water Reactor) and RBMK (Boiling Water-Graphite) technologies; Tecnatom has incorporated these technologies into its range of services, along with other European and American technologies which are used in these countries.
The information contained in the different sections on this web site provide detailed descriptions of the activities of our company, the services and products available and our capability for taking on new technical challenges in this market. Proof of this can be found in the new markets that we have opened up which include aeronautics and space, railways, conventional electricity power plants and the petrochemical industry.
There follows a brief description of the content of the sections related with the nuclear industry, which are included on our web site. In the section Training Centre you can consult our capabilities in the area of personnel instruction and training, where the use of simulators is especially relevant. These full scope simulators or replica simulators, built and manufactured by Tecnatom, include different configurations of electricity generating plant control rooms and they are used for training personnel who operate nuclear, hydraulic and thermal power plants.
In the section Process Engineering a description is given of our experiences in activities related with inspection engineering, operation engineering and environmental engineering. These capabilities are aimed at providing support to the industry in operation, maintenance, components integrity, life management and industrial plants performance.
In the section Inspection and Test Services we have included the inspections that are carried out on industrial plants and, more specifically, the components of nuclear power plants, tests on systems and components, and the integral maintenance of snubbers.
Other sections of interest are: Design and Development of Products, where a description is given of Tecnatom’s capabilities for supplying equipment of a high technological level including both robotic inspection equipment and full scope simulators; Management of Spares, an activity with a high strategic value for nuclear power plants, including the aging of equipment and components, the lack of qualified suppliers and the supplying of equipment or parts; Laboratories with certified metrology in measuring the levels of flow, pressure, temperature, etc.; Dosimetry, which includes the measuring equipment and services for radiological protection, for both personnel and equipment, and Diversification, which includes the use of new technologies such as virtual reality and computer applications which are used in Tecnatom’s activities and new products designed to satisfy the new demands and requirements of our clients.
