GENESIAD

The Spanish Department of Industry, Trade and Tourism has approved to Tecnatom a PROFIT project, in the framework of the National Programme of Industrial Design and Production. The financial scheme has been a refundable loan. Project data are detailed below:

  • Project Title: New generation of inspection and data acquisition systems of high productivity in high risk industrial components (GENESIAD).
  • Execution period: Year 2006
  • Funding body: Spanish Department of Industry, Trade and Tourism. General Direction of Industrial Development.

PITAP

In the framework of a regional Funding Programme devoted to aerospace industry, the Community of Madrid has approved the PITAP project, submitted by Tecnatom in year 2006. Project data are detailed below::

  • Project title: Preparation for the future industrialisation of phased-array technology in the aeronautic industry for applications of high productivity (PITAP)
  • Execution period: 2006-2007
  • Funding body: Community of Madrid. Council of Economy and Technological Innovation. General Direction of Technological Innovation.

OTAICA

As a continuation of PITAP project, approved by the Community of Madrid for year 2006, Tecnatom has obtained again the maximum grant from the Regional Government for the OTAICA project, devoted to new research and developments on Non-Destructive Testing into the aeronautic field. Project data are detailed below:

  • Project title: Study and optimisation of phased-array technology and its application in the inspection of aircraft components of complex geometry (OTAICA)
  • Execution period: 2007-2008
  • Funding body: Community of Madrid (Spain). Consejería de Economía e Innovación Tecnológica. Dirección General de Innovación Tecnológica.

New Inspection System for Aeronautical Componentes

The system allows for the simultaneous inspection of the outside (skin) and inside reinforcements (“hat stringers”) of fuselage sections 47 and 48 of the Boeing 787, using two ultrasonic inspection systems based on the new MIDAS-MultiX equipment developed by TECNATOM-M2M.  The mechanical equipment is made up of a Cartesian machine with a digital controller for inspection of the fuselage skin and of a robot for inspection of the internal stringers.  Control of the systems is accomplished by the integration of controllers with the corresponding MIDAS acquisition consoles.

A new UT inspection system architecture has been defined (probes, mechanical inspection modules, electronics, wiring and software), which will serve as a reference for future supplies based on the new MIDAS-MultiX Phase-Array equipment.  For exterior inspection of the skin, array techniques and modules totalling 128 channels have been used, while for interior inspection of the stringers a conventional technique with a 64-channel distribution has been used.

OPERATING AID SYSTEMS

LEMS is a monitoring system designed to calculate and evaluate the life consumption of the critical components in a thermal power plant due to fluency and fatigue.

It is based on the analysis of measurements of changes in pressure and temperature acquired in the plant. The tool is capable of making calculations for thermal fluency and fatigue both On-line and Off-Line, by means of the storing of historical files.

EDDY CURRENT INSPECTION

Detection and evaluation of cracking in weld affected zones of PWR and VVER type pressurized water reactor closure head penetrations.

The methods used are eddy currents, ultrasonics (TOFD and pulse-echo) and visual inspection.

Used for this purpose are a radial positioner especially adapted for repairs, an inspection module for the gap formed by the penetration and thermal sleeve, the module for combined inspection of the open penetration, a scanner for examination of the weld surface and a vehicle equipped with magnetic wheels (Magnetec) with two cameras for visual inspection of the upper part of the closure head.

SIMULATION SYSTEMS

TESIS is the new inputs/outputs interface developed for application on the four new full-scope simulators developed by Tecnatom in recent years: Trillo, Vandellós-II, ASCÓ and Garoña.

In addition to providing service with respect to the specifications demanded, maintenance aspects have been reinforced with automatic fault detection systems and signal monitoring independent from simulation.
